Active Constituents:
  • Saponins
  • Flavonoids (rutin)
  • Tannins
  • Bitter principle
  • Volatile oil

Qualities: Cool, dry, bitter, astringent (Holmes)

Actions:
  • Diaphoretic
  • Anti-catarrhal (URT and urinary)
  • Helps fight against allergic reactions – up-regulating kidney function – increases filtration — increase elimination
  • Antimicrobial
  • Carminative
  • Urinary Antiseptic
  • Diuretic / aquaretic (↑ urine volume / water loss but notelectrolyte excretion)
  • Anti-inflammatory

 Indications:

  • Upper respiratory tract catarrh or inflammation, especially of a chronic nature
  • Chronic naso-pharyngeal catarrh
  • Conjunctivitis
  • Influenza
  • Allergic rhinitis / Hay fever
  • Sinusitis
  • Flatulent dyspepsia
  • Cystitis
  • As a spray or gargle for nose and throat infections

 

  • BHP Specific: Low grade inflammation of the nasopharynx
  • BHP Specific: Low grade inflammation of the nasopharynx with persistent catarrh

Contraindications:

Asteraceae allergy
Cautions: None known

Dosage:
Liquid Extract
1.5 – 4.5ml 1:2/ LE day
10.5 -30ml 1:2 LE week
Dried Herb Equivalent
1.5 – 6g / day dried aerial parts (infusion)
